Rocatrol Uses Pyridium is a synthetic (man-made) form of vitamin D. Vitamin D is important for the absorption of calcium from the stomach and for the functioning of calcium in the body. How to use Rocatrol Take Rocatrol exactly as directed on the package or as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take each dose with a full glass of water. Pyridium is usually taken three times a day after meals. Never take more of this medication than is prescribed for you. Rocatrol Side Effects This drug may cause following serious side effects : an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, closing of your throat, swelling of your lips, tongue, or face, or hives), an irregular heartbeat, or abdominal pain. Other side effects may be signs of too much calcium in your body. Contact your doctor if you experience weakness, headache, nausea and vomiting, dry mouth, constipation, a metallic taste in your mouth, muscle or bone pain, increased thirst and/ or urination, increased nighttime urination, itching, or decreased appetite. Rocatrol Precautions Tell your doctor your medical history especially : If you are taking digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps), or take magnesium-containing antacids. Rocatrol should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Do not take antacids or vitamin or mineral supplements except under the supervision of your doctor Rocatrol Drug interactions Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you may use, especially : digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps), a magnesium-containing antacid, cholestyramine (Questran, Prevalite), orlistat (Xenical), a thiazide diuretic including hydrochlorothiazide (Esidrix, Hydrodiuril, Microzide, Oretic), chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Hygroton, Thalitone), indapamide (Lozol), metolazone (Mykrox, Zaroxolyn), bendroflumethiazide (Naturetin), hydroflumethiazide (Diucardin, Saluron), methyclothiazide (Enduron, Aquatensen), polythiazide (Renese), and trichlormethiazide (Naqua), or mineral oil. Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Rocatrol. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines. Rocatrol Overdose If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may Include irregular heartbeats, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, decreased appetite, constipation, weakness, headache, or a metallic taste in the mouth. Rocatrol Notes Do not share Rocatrol with others. Rocatrol Missed Dose If you miss an Rocatrol dosage, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. Rocatrol Storage Store Rocatrol at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from sunlight and moisture.
