Plavix Uses Plavix prevents platelets (substances in the blood) from clustering. This helps to prevent blood from forming blood clots. Plavix is used in the prevention and treatment of heart attack, stroke, blood clots, and acute coronary syndrome.
How To Use Plavix Take Plavix exactly as directed on the package or as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take each dose with a full glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break any controlled-release (CR) forms of Plavix. Swallow them whole. They are specially formulated to release slowly in your body. Never take more of this medication than is prescribed for you.
Plavix Side Effects This drug may cause following serious side effects : an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face, or hives), bloody (or black) vomit or stools, severe headache, confusion, or dizziness, unexplained bruising or bleeding, or bleeding nose. Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take Plavix and talk to your doctor if you experience upset stomach, diarrhea or constipation, or headache or dizziness.
Plavix Precautions Tell you doctor if
you have a bleeding or blood disorder, have a stomach or intestinal ulcer, have liver disease, or need to have surgery (including dental surgery). Plavix should not be used without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or are planning a pregnancy. As it might passes into breast milk and may affect a nursing infant. Plavix Drug Interactions Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you are using, especially : Aspirin, warfarin (Coumadin), heparin, ardeparin (Normiflo), dalteparin (Fragmin), danaparoid (Orgaran), enoxaparin (Lovenox), or tinzaparin (Innohep), or a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others), naproxen (Anaprox, Naprosyn, Aleve), ketoprofen (Orudis KT, Orudis, Oruvail), indomethacin (Indocin), diclofenac (Cataflam, Voltaren), diflunisal (Dolobid), etodolac (Lodine), fenoprofen (Nalfon), flurbiprofen (Ansaid), nabumetone (Relafen), oxaprozin (Daypro), piroxicam (Feldene), sulindac (Clinoril), or tolmetin (Tolectin). The medicines listed above can cause bleeding, especially when taken with Plavix. This could become dangerous. Do not take any of the medicines listed above without first talking to your doctor. Plavix may also interact with the following medications phenytoin (Dilantin), tamoxifen (Nolvadex), tolbutamide (Orinase), torsemide (Demadex ), and fluvastatin (Lescol). Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Plavixl. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines. Plavix Overdose If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may includevomiting, difficulty breathing, blood in the vomit or stool, and exhaustion. Plavix Notes Do not share Plavix with others. Plavix Missed Dose If you miss an Plavix dosage, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. Plavix Storage Store Plavix at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from sunlight and moisture.
