Phenergan Uses Phenergan contains an antihistamine and decongestant used to relieve allergy symptoms such as itchy red eyes, stuffy nose and throat irritation.
How to Use Phenergan Take Phenergan exactly as directed on the package or as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take each dose with a full glass of water. Phenergan can be taken with or without food. Never take more of this medication than is prescribed for you. Phenergan Side Effects Nausea, stomach upset, trouble sleeping, headache, or cold symptoms may occur. If these persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Unlikely but report promptly: dizziness, mental/mood changes, fast heartbeat, fever. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: fainting, irregular heartbeat. Although drowsiness is very uncommon at usual doses under normal circumstances, be aware that drowsiness may occur and may effect the ability to perfom tasks requiring alertness (e.g., driving). If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Phenergan Precautions Tell your doctor your medical history, including: epilepsy or another seizure disorder, been diagnosed with sleep apnea (periods of not breathing during sleep), glaucoma, an ulcer or an obstruction in your stomach, bladder problems or difficulty urinating, high blood pressure or any type of heart disease, or liver problems. Limit alcohol intake, as it may aggravate drug side effects. Phenergan should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. The pseudoephedrine in this product is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Caution is advised when this product is used in the elderly since this group may be more sensitive to side effects.
Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight. Promethazine may increase the sensitivity of your skin to sunlight. Use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing when exposure to the sun is unavoidable. Phenergan Drug Interactions Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you may use, especially:Anxiety or sleep medicines such as alprazolam (Xanax), diazepam (Valium), chlordiazepoxide (Librium), temazepam (Restoril), or triazolam (Halcion), medications for depression such as amitriptyline (Elavil), doxepin (Sinequan), nortriptyline (Pamelor), fluoxetine (Prozac), sertraline (Zoloft), or paroxetine (Paxil), narcotics (pain killers) such as: meperidine (Demerol), morphine (MS Contin, MSIR, others), propoxyphene (Darvon, Darvocet), hydrocodone (Lorcet, Vicodin), oxycodone (Percocet, Percodan), fentanyl (Duragesic), and codeine (Fiorinal, Fioricet, Tylenol #3), other sedatives such as phenobarbital (Solfoton, Luminal), amobarbital (Amytal) and secobarbital (Seconal), Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Phenergan. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines.
Phenergan Overdose If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include irregular or unusually slow or fast heartbeat, unusual nervousness or excitement, rapid breathing, confusion, hallucinations, and seizures.

Phenergan Missed Dose If you miss an Phenergan dosage, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
Phenergan Storage Store Phenergan at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from sunlight and moisture.
